Today the LD38 Democrats, Lisa Swain and Chris Tully issued a strong statement in response to fundamental freedoms being stripped away. “All across the country, reproductive freedoms are under fire. In New Jersey, we refuse to go back in time; we refuse to accept that our daughters may have fewer rights than our mothers did.”

"Today, the 38th District Democrats released a new digital ad – “Neighbors.” The ad, which begins streaming on connected TV platforms today, highlights their work combating gun violence, supporting New Jersey’s public schools, and cutting property taxes."

“We had been trying for years when the unimaginable happened – my doctor told me I needed a lifesaving abortion,” said Teri, a Bergen County nurse. “I had seen cases like my own in the ER, but then it happened to me. Without that abortion, I wouldn’t have two beautiful children today.”

“We are deeply appalled by the horrifying acts of violence committed by Hamas terrorists during Shabbat and the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah. The attacks on civilian lives, many of whom are women and children, are disturbing."

“Representative Van Drew has made a career out of political extremism and pledged his 'undying support' for President Trump while ignoring the needs of his constituents. Van Drew supported President Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election, ignoring the will of New Jersey voters and leading to an armed insurrection on the US Capitol... Wilkes must defend his choice to fundraise with him.”

“The charges laid out in today's indictment against Senator Menendez are alarming. We strongly believe in every American’s right to a fair trial and presumption of innocence, but these allegations leave us with serious concerns over his ability to continue to provide New Jerseyans with the federal representation they deserve. We are calling for the Senator to step down immediately to allow our state and nation to move forward.”

“The bomb threat targeted at Congregation Ahavat Achim in Fair Lawn last night was a disgraceful act of cowardice. While we are relieved that no evidence of a bomb or related materials was found, this threat – which came just ahead of Rosh Hashanah – is deeply troubling."

"A woman's right to her own reproductive health care is a top concern for many of my constituents,” said Assemblywoman Swain. “Republicans think the government should dictate what a woman can and can’t do with her body, but I’ll always fight for women’s right to make her own health care decisions.”

 Today, the 38th District Democrats released a digital ad highlighting how New Jersey Republicans like Micheline Attieh, Gail Horton, and Barry Wilkes are working to pass new Texas-style abortion bans in New Jersey. 

"Without labor unions, we wouldn't have the eight-hour workday, weekends off, lunch breaks, paid vacation, Social Security, or the minimum wage. Lagana, Swain, and Tully believe that it is essential that we fight for labor unions so that they can continue the fight for working people in New Jersey and across the country."

The DLCC Spotlight distinction reflects the importance of Lagana, Swain, and Tully’s race in LD38 in Bergen County. It’s also a reminder that it is a competitive race – one of the most competitive in the state.

Assemblywoman Swain also wrote legislation that ensures that New Jersey medical professionals are never punished for providing crucial abortion services in New Jersey and that anyone who comes to the Garden State for reproductive health care can receive it. 

“Bergen County commuters and families rely on their cars every day to get to work, school, and social activities,” said Senator Lagana. “I was proud to write and pass this law so my constituents don’t have to worry if their car will be available the next time they need it.”
