Assemblywoman Lisa Swain Fights to Codify Abortion Rights In NJ
Bergen County, NJ – Assemblywoman Lisa Swain (D-Fair Lawn) proudly supported the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act, which codified the right to reproductive choice for all New Jersey citizens.
“Every woman should have the freedom to make her own health care decisions, and I was proud to fight to secure that right in New Jersey,” said Assemblywoman Swain. “The state legislature should never come between a woman and her doctor, and now every woman in Bergen County can feel confident that they’ll be freely able to make their own reproductive health care decisions.”
Assemblywoman Swain also wrote legislation that ensures that New Jersey medical professionals are never punished for providing crucial abortion services in New Jersey and that anyone who comes to the Garden State for reproductive health care can receive it.
“This legislation aims to protect medical professionals who provide necessary reproductive health care services in New Jersey,” said Assemblywoman Swain, “We will continue to protect women and ensure they can make their own medical decisions in partnership with their doctors, without interference from any government trying to restrict their freedom.”
These bills come in the wake of increasing attacks from Republicans on women's reproductive rights, including a proposed new abortion ban, Assembly Bill 305, introduced by New Jersey Republicans in the state legislature. Assemblywoman Swain and all three LD38 Democrats stand in staunch opposition to any such restrictive legislation and will continue to fight for womens’ health care throughout New Jersey.
"A woman's right to her own reproductive health care is a top concern for many of my constituents,” said Assemblywoman Swain. “Republicans think the government should dictate what a woman can and can’t do with her body, but I’ll always fight for women’s right to make their own health care decisions.”
